Introducing Rebecca Rutherford

Hi, My name is Rebecca Rutherford and I am from Valley Center, CA. I have lived in two places my whole life; Valley Center and Wildomar, CA. I have been married for 11 years and have a wonderful helpful husband who I would not be here without. We have 4 children together. A son who is 8, three daughters who are 7,6, and 4 years old. As far as my schooling goes, I attended Valley Center Elementary and Middle School, and then went to Orange Glen High School. I went to Palomar College right out of High School. I went there for about 2 years before I had my first baby and had completed 60 units. So about 3 years ago I decided to go and finish my bachelors degree now that my kids were in school and I had a little bit of free time. I was accepted to University of Redlands and have attended night school ever since. I have gone every Thursday night for 2 years with the help of my husband. It has been a huge commitment and without my husbands full support I could have never done this. I applied to the crudential program in the fall at CSUSM for a multiple subject crudential so that I can continue to work with kids and fulfill my lifelong dream.
Technology is not my strong suit at all, but it does not scare me either. I have a very nice HP laptop and it is my saving grace because I can do school work while at kids practices. My other favorite piece of technology is my cell phone because I know that my kids can always get a hold of me no matter what. I am planning on getting a blackberry in June when my contract is up and can switch companies. That way I can have the internet always on me. I am a PC user at this time only because the laptop was more affordable. I would love to eventually get a mac. I currently use the 07 version of Office and have had a huge adjustment because their is a huge difference from the 03 version.
I attended public schools all my life and really believe that the teachers are what make the school. If teachers don't have a strong school background and have not been taught by a school that believes in the best education then they will not be good. CSUSM says that they want to change this system and ensure that the teacher are professionals. I believe this school is devoted to producing the best educated and prepared teachers and that is the reason I applied here.

  1. I am the same way with my cell phone -I panic when I don't have it. I mean what if my kids need to get a hold of me or there is a school emergency? I don't think I could ever leave their sides if I didn't have my cell to cart around ;)
